Hi toodd, numerous health benefits are associated with eating vegetables and fruits. A diet high in vegetables and fruits is likely to be linked to a decrease in the risk of cancer of the mouth, esophagus, stomach, lung, colon, rectum and possibly other cancers. Eating large amounts of vegetables and fruits has been clearly linked to a decrease in the risk of cardiovascular disease. Eating vegetables and fruits may also help improve bone health, diabetes control, and the maintenance of a healthy body weight.

Phytochemicals from green apples – known as highest polyphenols. Polyphenols from apples have an astonishing range of health effects, and may be nature’s perfect antioxidant. They have previously shown effectiveness against colon, lung, liver and stomach cancer, among others. But this is the first published study showing that apple polyphenols may be even more effective against breast cancer tumors.

In every study, apple procyanidins have proven completely safe for humans. There is no toxicity, no irritation, and no side effects.

Also, Green tea is rich in a class of polyphenols (polyphenols give the plant its color) known as catechins (pronounced kat-a-kins).

Also, Yerba Mate contains 52 more known active chemical compounds than green tea. It is loaded with potent phytochemical antioxidants, and in far greater quantities than in green tea. Like green tea, it has anti-cancer and anti-aging benefits, again, in higher quantities.

About OPON -1. Human paraoxonase 1 (PON-1) is a serum high-density lipoprotein-associated enzyme mainly secreted by the liver. It has endogenous and exogenous substrates and displays protective properties with respect to cardiovascular disease and organophosphate intoxication. Increased PON-1 activity following consumption of polyphenol-rich diets is consistent with the beneficial cardiovascular effects of such diets. It was suggested that polyphenols could act through their antioxidant properties (PON-1 activity is known to be inhibited by oxidative stress).

    Pomegranate juice consumption for 3 years by patients with carotid artery stenosis reduces common carotid intima-media thickness, blood pressure and LDL oxidation. Serum paraoxonase 1 (PON 1) arylesterase activity, an HDL-associated enzyme that can reduce lipid peroxides, thereby decreasing oxidative stress;

This will require a major paradigm change in the US. Consumers have to begin rejecting cheap fast food that is awful for their bodies and decide to spend more money on wholesome foods. US lifestyle plays a major role. We do everything so fast, are such a time pressured country that we eat the same way, not wanting to spend time preparing wholesome foods and opting for Big Macs and pizza delivery. The bigger is better culture that we seem to have here also plays in to this- everything is supersized and now we are as well. How to reverse the cultural changes that have fostered this epidemic? Start with our kids- education- changing school lunch programs. Emphasizing physical exercise. Building safer neighborhoods so our kids can walk to school. Get rid of TV ads that promote junk food and junk eating- we did it with tobacco, why not junk food? Set better examples for our kids. Get early screening for kids- heart disease is creeping into the pediatric population. Its a hugely complex problem, that will increasingly cripple our country if we don’t deal with it now.

Education and awareness needs to be addressed for this disease. Heart Disease must be a topic for each month of the year, not just have one month designated to think about it in a year.

To get the word out, schools must have assemblies about them and classes that teach children about heart disease too. Communities need to address this growing problem and have open forums regularly through out the year for the public to attend that is free.

Unfortunately all the education and awareness is worthless if people don’t choose to listen and actively change their behaviors. The choice is up to each individual to make. If someone chooses not to do anything about it, they won’t. We can’t force anyone to do something they don’t want to do.

People have the right of choice. That is what our country is all about. It is called freedom of choice. We may not agree with them or they us, but we each make our own choices in our lives. Some people want to change while others don’t. But that shouldn’t stop us from educating people anyway.

That is my opinion. Good luck!

One has to focus on the modifiable risk factors like the following:
1.) Diet – avoid foods that will increase triglycerides and low-density lipoproteins (which are considered bad cholesterol). Eat foods that have good cholesterol (HDL or High density lipoprotein). Also lower sodium intake since sodium causes the blood vessels to be more stiff or more resistant, raising one’s blood pressure which will lead to hypertension.

2.) Moderate Exercise – research shows that moderate exercise not only increases blood flow to blood vessels, organs and tissues but it also increases burning of fat and decrease one’s chances of developing Diabetes Mellitus which has been linked to heart disease due to atherosclerosis.
3.) Avoid smoking – nicotine causes vasospasm (constricts blood vessels) that may decrease myocardial oxygen supply.
4.) Alcohol – there are also research that suggest that drinking red wine in MODERATION is good for the heart since it tends to increase blood flow to the heart by dilating the blood vessels.

Heart disease can be reversed by changing one’s own lifestyle. Consume less sugar, fat and oil (stop overeating), do more exercise, stop mental stress and strain, stop cigarette smoking especially after 25 years of age.
Please see the webpages for more details on Heart disease.

Don’t smoke and change your diet. There are statin drugs to control cholesterol which clogs the arteries. Get regular check-ups.

You really can’t reverse it. You prevent it! There are many factors – exercise, cholesterol, LDL and triglyceride levels etc. They need to be managed to be right.

There are a lot of different types of heart disease. People who are busy all the time often suffer from high blood pressure and they may risk blockages of the arteries. Emotions of irritability and ongoing anger are danger signs because they make the body work harder and that means more activity in the arteries. when that happens there is more damage to the arterial walls and ongoing repairs are the result, which means more and more material can pile up at damage sites. Resolve issues and get rid of the anger. Issues means there are people causing you problems. The other thing to do is to meditate regularly. Meditation helps bring the body back to rest and that facilitates any ‘housework’ that the body needs to do such as repairing damaged tissues.
Another type of heart problems that are common has to do with the electrical stimulus and the heart muscle’s ability to contract properly. If there is anxiety (mixed fear and worry) present then the body will get mixed signals because fear tells the heart to go fast and worry, which requires rest and reflective thinking to solve a problem, tells the heart to go slow. So with anxiety the heart gets signals to go fast and slow at the same time or in an alternating pattern and that affects the heart muscle and the heart’s pumping ability. Again resolve the issue. However if you can’t then allow the fear without worry. This will stop the anxiety. Anxiety is an indicator that you have hidden enemies and they are hidden because they present themselves as friends in order to get close to you. Toxic people get a kick out of hurting others. It is also done by manipulative, controlling people as a means of gaining power and influence over another person because while the person experiences health problems the manipulative person gets to make all decisions especially in a relationship. This is a virulent new form of domestic violence that is still little known but it affects a large number of women. The person they hurt would dump them if they knew the truth so they appear friendly to lull their victim into a false sense of security and to make them trust them. Meditation is also good here too because it helps the breathing reach a subtle and rhythmic rate and that helps the heart and the lungs.
