Buy some Rolaids or Tums. They could help. I take Zantac for really horrible heart burn. If you have it often, you should speak to your doctor about it next time you are there.

Question by SLYONE: Are there some great, practical and healthy-conscious cook books?
I don’t want to slave away for hours at the kitchen, having to worry driving to the next city to find an artichoke heart or something like that or worry about the food tasting, well, SUPER healthy (no flavor) lol.

Which books would you recommend to a young guy?

I don’t have any specific books in mind, but I can tell you that generally:
-The less cooking (more raw) the food is, the healthier (this refers to natural i.e. not bread :P )
-Quinoa is an amazing, healthy and tasty grain that can be used to replace rice. It can also be used instead of flour and in salads and etc. It’s basically a “magic” food, because it is very very healthy. It also has an interesting history… but anyway.
-The more simple the process, usually the healthier.
-This isn’t a food, but it’s very healthy and relates to food. It’s a good idea to take digestive enzymes before/while eating. It is very good for your overall health.
-Avoid milk. It’s not needed after the child has finished developing. It’s actually bad for you. So try not to eat cereal with milk and such for breakfast, try yogurt!
-Oatmeal is a very good “brain food“. As well as dark chocolate.
-Soak almonds in water a few nights a week. The water brings out the vitamins in the nut, very healthy.
-Butter is not a good choice. There are many alternatives.
-Try not to make sandwiches if you make your lunch for work. Bread is pretty bad. It just forms clumps in your digestive system :S
-Celery has lots of vitamin C!
-I find it tricky to pack healthy food for lunch, so try salads, or leftovers from healthy dinners in previous days.
-Green smoothies! these are the best thing you will ever eat/consume. The book is called green for life. It has recipes for very healthy smoothies that you can make at home with simple ingredients. They are very tasty and refreshing. Also, they are filling because the ingredients are raw, bringing out the enzymes within them.

Hope these tips help!

ps. remember that eating only healthy 24/7 isn’t good either. You should have some sugars or starches once in a while.

Question by lalalalala: SHARP pain in UPPER LEFT SIDE OF CHEST ? HEART ATTACK ? HELP !! im 18 and healthy . pain gets worse every day?
i have a sharp pain in the upper left side of my chest. like right above the right side of my left breast lol if that makes sense. i usually feel it when i get up (from sitting or laying down) but sometimes i feel it for no reason. it’s been going on in the past few days, and every day it’s getting worse and worse (right now it hurts SO bad) along with sleeping 14-18 hours a day because i’m so tired no matter how much i sleep, and dehyrdation..

i’m 18 years old, 5 foot 2 and 120 pounds. i think i eat pretty healthy. i eat a lot of vegetables and i used to eat bad but i changed my eating habits. i don’t eat potatoes or rice that much anymore. i don’t eat fried food anymore. i barely eat out. i eat decent. the other day i had pizza though and i felt a heaviness in my chest. is it just my hypochondria/anxiety acting up?

i’m so scared i’m having a heart attack, but i can’t go to the ER or the doctor because #1) i don’t have insurance at the moment (in two weeks it’ll come in the mail) and #2) i’m a severe hypochondriac and i’ve been to the ER so many times that nobody believes or listens to me anymore. so if i tell them my chest is hurting they’ll say “my muscles are growing” or some BS crap like that.

i’m scared.

Don’t take a chance! It could be a pulled muscle or could be heart problems. At any rate, the Emergency Room has to treat you for an emergency, which is exactly what this is. You don’t have to have insurance in an emergency. You actually need to get to a doctor or clinic to get your other anxiety and health problems straightened out too. There are places that can help people without insurance, but you must listen to them and do as they say if you want help.

I’m a nurse, so let me see if I can help. Have you tried an over the counter antacid like Tums? Rolaids? Mylanta?

Do you have this problem often? If so, you may have GERD, also known as acid reflux. If that’s the case, it’s something you need to take something on a daily basis for acid reduction. They now sell Pepcid and Prilosec over the counter, if the antacids don’t work. If you’re still not doing better, you may need to see the Dr about, so that you can get something stronger like Nexium.

Despite what myths you hear, like drinking milk to reduce the heartburn. Be careful doing those. The milk does feel good, and makes it go away. But due to the acid in the milk, it causes the heartburn to come back worse. Good luck!

The tea may be making it worse. Tea is acidic. Fried and spicy foods will both cause heartburn. Try Tums, Rolaids, Maalox, or Mylanta. You can get them anywhere. If your burps smell like sulfur or rotten eggs, then it is caused by a bacterial infection.

The grease in your dinner has caused you to make a lot of acid. You need to neutralise this acid. if you have any heartburn remedy in the house take that. if not dig out some bicarb or baking powder and mix a good spoonful with a little water and drink that. This should ease it.
Go easy on greasy and spicy food in future to avoid this problem.
